Critical illness insurance
Pays out a lump sum (usually) or income if you are diagnosed with a serious illness, such as cancer, heart attack and stroke. Different companies/policies cover different illnesses and others covered can include Alzheimers disease, blindness, coma, deafness, kidney failure, Motor Neurone disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Paralysis and Parkinson's Disease. Income insurance (also known as Permanent Health Insurance - PHI)
Provides income if you are unable to work long term. The level of income benefit is related to your earnings and is paid after an intial period, typically three or six months, until anticipated retirement age.
